Accessibility
We want every customer to be able to research a mount, check whether it fits, and place an order without running into a barrier. This page explains the standard we build to, what we have done, what we know still needs work, and how to get help from a person if something here blocks you.
The standard we build to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. That is our target for the whole store: product pages, collection and search pages, the cart, and our support and policy pages.
We treat it as ongoing work rather than a finished state. Accessibility checks are part of how we build and review changes to the site, not a one-time audit. We do not use accessibility overlay plugins; we fix issues in the site itself.
What we have done
- Colour and contrast. Text and interface colours come from one shared set of design tokens and are checked against the AA contrast minimums in both the light and dark appearance of the site.
- Light and dark appearance. The site follows your device's light or dark setting. You can switch between them with the button in the header, and the site remembers your choice.
- Keyboard access. The site is designed to be used with a keyboard alone. Menus, dialogs and drawers keep focus inside while open, return focus when they close, and close with the Escape key.
- Visible focus. Interactive elements show a visible focus indicator, including on dark surfaces.
- Structure and labelling. Each page has one main heading and a logical heading order. Images carry alternative text, and form fields have labels rather than placeholder text alone.
- Phone, tablet and desktop. Pages are built and checked at phone, tablet and desktop widths, and support browser zoom and larger text.
- Motion. Animation is subtle by default and is turned off for visitors whose device asks for reduced motion.
- How we check. We test with automated accessibility tools and by hand with a keyboard, in more than one browser, in both appearances. Automated tools find only part of the problems that affect people, so we also want to hear from you.
What still needs work
We would rather tell you this than let you find it yourself:
- Embedded videos on some partner products. Some product descriptions for items fulfilled by our partners include YouTube videos. Parts of the YouTube player have controls without accessible names, and we cannot change that player. If a video is not usable for you, contact us and we will describe what it shows.
- Very small and landscape phone screens. A few layout details are still being refined on the narrowest phones and in landscape. For example, a long specification label can break in the middle of a word, and on a short landscape screen the add-to-cart bar can cover the image zoom button until you scroll.
- Pages and tools that Shopify provides. Checkout, the customer account area and the chat window are provided by Shopify. We configure what we can and rely on Shopify for the rest.
- Installation manuals. Our installation manuals are PDF files. We have not yet completed an accessibility review of every manual, and much of the guidance is in diagrams. Documents for partner-fulfilled products come from those partners. If a manual is not usable for you, contact us and we will talk you through it, describe the relevant step, or provide the information another way.
