Choosing a launch monitor. Camera or radar, ceiling or floor, and the room each needs.

A launch monitor measures ball and club data at each strike and sends it to the software. How it measures, where it sits and what it needs from the room decide which one suits you. Then: marked balls and software.

Camera or radarFloor or ceilingSpace needs

Radar or photometric

Two ways to measure the strike. Radar tracks the ball in flight; cameras capture the impact.

Radar units track the ball in flight and generally sit behind the ball. Photometric units use cameras to capture the ball and club at impact, so they sit beside the ball or overhead. Every launch monitor we sell is photometric. Each product page lists the ball and club numbers it reports.

  • Radar

Generally sits behind the ball and tracks its flight. We do not currently sell radar units.

  • Photometric (camera)

Sits beside the ball or overhead and captures impact. Every unit we sell works this way.

Floor placement

On the floor, beside the ball. Sits next to the hitting area.

Floor units sit to one side of the hitting area. Which side they sit on depends on the player, so check the product page for how the unit handles right- and left-handed players. The product page also states the space the unit needs; where it is not published, the builder says so rather than guess.

Ceiling placement

Overhead, out of the way. Frees the floor, needs a specific ceiling height.

Ceiling-mounted units hang above the hitting area and capture the strike from overhead. They free the floor and keep the unit out of the way of the club, and most of the ceiling units we sell are listed as working for right- and left-handed players. They need a ceiling within a stated height band: 9 ft to 10 ft for the Uneekor EYE XO and EYE XO2, and 9 ft 6 in to 10 ft 6 in for the Foresight Falcon. Installation and labor are not included.

Space each needs

The launch monitor sets the room. Ceiling band, tee-to-screen distance and room size.

Depth runs from the screen wall to the back wall and has to hold the enclosure, the hitting area, the player and the distance the maker states from tee to screen. Ceiling units add a height band. Each product states its own figures; the builder checks the ceiling band and the tee-to-screen distance against your room where they are published.

  • Ceiling-mounted

Uneekor states a room 15 ft deep for the EYE XO. Ceiling band: 9 ft to 10 ft for both Uneekor units; 9 ft 6 in to 10 ft 6 in for the Falcon.

  • Floor-standing

Check the product page for the space the unit needs, and how it handles right- and left-handed players.

Marked balls

Check before you buy balls. Some units need marked balls for full data.

Some launch monitors need balls with special markings to read every number; others read any ball. The product page states what each unit needs. If you plan to hit a lot of range balls, check this before you choose.

Software

The round runs on your PC. Included, licensed or compatible, stated per unit.

Simulator software runs on a PC or tablet and turns the launch monitor's data into the round. Each launch monitor's product page states which software it includes or supports, and the software maker states what the PC needs. We do not sell PCs; bring your own. Venues should check the license terms for commercial use.

Questions

Launch monitor questions

Which launch monitor suits a small room?
Start with the ceiling. A ceiling-mounted unit frees the floor but needs its stated height band: 9 ft to 10 ft for the Uneekor EYE XO and EYE XO2, 9 ft 6 in to 10 ft 6 in for the Foresight Falcon. Then check depth against the maker's stated tee-to-screen distance, or let the builder do it.
Do I need marked balls?
It depends on the unit. Some launch monitors need balls with special markings to read every number; others read any ball. The product page states what each unit needs.
Can I mount a launch monitor on the ceiling?
Some units are designed for it and some are not; the product page says. Ceiling units free the floor, but need a ceiling within a stated height band: 9 ft to 10 ft for the Uneekor EYE XO and EYE XO2, and 9 ft 6 in to 10 ft 6 in for the Foresight Falcon. Installation and labor are not included.
Which software does it run?
Each launch monitor's product page states what it includes and what it supports. Some software is included, some is licensed separately. Check the software maker's PC requirements and, for a venue, the terms for commercial use.
Do I need a PC?
Simulator software runs on a PC or tablet; which one depends on the software and the launch monitor, and the software maker states the requirements. We do not sell PCs; bring your own and place it where the HDMI run to the projector is practical.
Who supports the launch monitor?
Golf products are sold by QualGear and fulfilled by our partners, who ship them directly and handle product support, warranty and returns. Contact us first and we will route your request. For how the unit fits with the mount, cables and room, call QualGear, Mon–Fri 9–5 CT.

Plan it, then build it. Measure the room, then choose a package or each part.

Build your simulator

Choose each part; the builder checks it against your room where the maker publishes a size, and adds the whole build to your cart.
