Buying guide

Choosing your mount. Fit is the VESA pattern plus weight capacity — not screen size alone.

This guide explains how QualGear TV and monitor mount fit actually works, compares the mount types in the catalog, and gives you the checklist to run before you buy. Every QualGear mount page lists the complete set of VESA patterns it supports, so you can confirm fit on the product page itself.

How fit works

Two numbers decide fit. The VESA pattern and the weight capacity — everything else refines the choice.

Step 1

Find your VESA pattern

VESA is the standard spacing of the four threaded holes on the back of your TV or monitor — measured in millimeters, width × height. Check your display's manual, or measure the hole spacing center-to-center on the back of the display.

What is VESA?

Step 2

Check the weight capacity

Your display's weight must be within the mount's rated capacity. Never exceed a published weight or size limit — exceeding limits risks product failure, equipment or property damage, and personal injury, and may void warranty coverage.

Step 3

Match both on the product page

Each QualGear mount page lists the complete set of VESA patterns it supports — never just an upper bound. If your display's exact pattern appears in the list and its weight is within the rated capacity, the mount supports it. Screen size is a guide, not the deciding factor.

Mount types

Mount types compared. Fixed, tilting, full-motion, ceiling, and desk — matched to how the room is used.

Fixed

Fixed wall mounts

The slimmest profile — the display sits flat and close to the wall, with no movement after installation. QualGear's ultra slim fixed mounts hold a TV as close as 0.39 in / 1 cm off the wall. Choose fixed when the screen faces the seating straight on at eye level.

Tilting

Tilting wall mounts

Angles the display forward or back to reduce glare — the usual choice when the screen is mounted above eye level, such as over a fireplace or in a conference room.

Full-motion

Full-motion & articulating mounts

An articulating arm extends, swivels, and tilts — pull the display out, turn it toward the room, then fold it back near the wall. Choose full-motion for corner installations and rooms with more than one viewing position.

Ceiling

Ceiling & Pro-AV mounts

Projector ceiling mounts and NPT-based ceiling brackets hang equipment where walls are not an option — stores, lobbies, restaurants, and commercial rooms. The QualGear Pro-AV line adds 1.5-in NPT extension pipes, ceiling adapters, and complete projector mounting kits for custom drops.

Desk

Monitor & desk mounts

Articulating single and dual arms lift monitors off the desk and adjust through the workday. Check whether the arm clamps to the desk edge or needs a grommet hole, and confirm each arm's rated capacity against your monitor's weight.

Before you buy

The fit checklist. Six checks, straight from the compatibility questions our support team answers.

01

Display weight

Confirm your display's weight and compare it against the mount's rated capacity. Your equipment must fall within all published limits — meeting only one is not sufficient.

02

VESA pattern

Confirm the mounting-hole pattern and check it against the complete pattern list on the mount's product page.

03

Screen-size range

Treat the published screen-size range as the guide it is — never select a mount on screen size alone.

04

Wall or ceiling structure

You are responsible for confirming the supporting structure's condition and capacity, and for suitable fasteners. For uncertain structures, overhead installations, or concrete, steel, and masonry, a qualified professional is strongly recommended — remote support cannot inspect or certify a structure.

05

Extension, drop & clearances

Measure the required extension or ceiling drop, the clearances around the display, and the adjustment range you want — then compare against the model's published specifications and manual.

06

Hardware & instructions

Included contents vary by model, size, and installation method — review the product page and manual before installing. When the manual directs site-specific fasteners, a qualified professional should select them.

Choosing the right product. The compatibility questions we hear most.

How do I choose the correct mount or mounting kit?
Start with your exact equipment model, its weight, its mounting pattern, the installation location, the supporting surface, the required extension or drop, and the adjustment range you want. Then compare those against the QualGear model's published specifications and manual.
How do I know whether a TV or monitor mount is compatible?
Confirm the display's weight, the mount's screen-size range, the mounting-hole (VESA) pattern, and clearance requirements. Your equipment must fall within all published limits — meeting only one, such as screen size, is not sufficient.
How do I know whether a projector mount is compatible?
Confirm the projector's weight, its mounting-hole locations, the mounting orientation, the required ceiling drop, and the installation surface and structure. For universal brackets, verify the adjustment range reaches the projector's mounting points without obstruction.
Can I select a product based only on the equipment screen size?
No. Always verify weight capacity, mounting pattern, dimensions, clearances, hardware requirements, the supporting structure, and the installation conditions as well.
What is the QualGear Pro-AV line?
A modular line for demanding commercial installations: ceiling adapters, 1.5-in NPT extension pipes, pipe connectors, projector brackets, and truss, vaulted-ceiling, and custom-drop solutions.
Can Pro-AV components be combined to create a custom drop?
Compatible components may be combined when the specifications, threading, load ratings, and instructions permit. The complete assembly must be evaluated as a system, and the lowest applicable load or installation limit controls.
Can QualGear confirm compatibility for my project?
QualGear can provide specifications and general technical information. For a useful review, provide the equipment make and model, weight, mounting pattern, ceiling or wall type, desired drop or extension, photos or drawings, and any unusual site conditions.
Does a compatibility review replace professional engineering or onsite inspection?
No. Remote guidance cannot verify concealed structure, substrate condition, local code, field dimensions, or workmanship. Structural or code-sensitive installations need a qualified professional.
